Lesson 6 of 7
Prepare your filing
Gather everything before you open the USPTO application:
- Owner — the person or company that will own the mark (often your LLC, not you personally), with address.
- The mark — standard characters (the words in any style, the broadest choice) or a special form (your logo design).
- Classes and descriptions from the earlier steps.
- Filing basis and specimen.
- Fee per class. Check the current fees at uspto.gov.
File online through the USPTO's Trademark Center at uspto.gov. Applicants whose home or main place of business is outside the United States must use a U.S.-licensed attorney.
Uptown Legacy is education and guidance, not legal advice. For anything you are unsure about, a trademark attorney can review your filing before you submit.
